Best Google AI Mode tracking tools

Google AI Mode writes an answer, not a list of results. Here is what an AI Mode tracker should measure, and how the main tools compare.

An AI Mode tracking tool checks whether Google AI Mode mentions your brand when people ask questions in your category. It is not a rank tracker. AI Mode writes an answer, so there is no position one to hold. A good tracker runs a fixed set of prompts on a schedule and records mentions, position in the answer, citations and sentiment.

This guide covers what to look for in an AI Mode tracker, checker or analysis tool, then compares the main options. Pineprompt is ours, so it comes first. We have tried to stay fair to the rest.

What an AI Mode tracking tool should do

Tools go by many names: tracker, checker, checking software, analysis tool. The useful ones share the same core.

Repeated runs. AI Mode answers vary. One check proves nothing. Look for several runs per prompt and a mention rate across them.

Separate fields. Mentions, position, citations and sentiment should be distinct. A single score hides what to fix.

Cited sources. AI Mode links to pages. You need to see which of your URLs were cited and which other domains were cited on the same prompts.

Competitors. A mention rate means little without the brands next to you. Share of voice gives it context.

Country and language. Answers differ by market. Pick a tool that lets you set both.

History. You want trends, so you can tell whether a change worked.

Other engines. Buyers use more than one. AI Mode, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini in one view saves effort.

The tools

Pineprompt

Pineprompt tracks your prompts daily across eight engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Grok and Copilot. All eight are on every plan, so AI Mode is never an add-on.

For each answer it records mentions, position, sentiment, citations and sources, and competitors, with share of voice and country and language targeting. There is an MCP server on every plan. The REST API and Looker Studio connection are on Professional and Business. See the Google AI Mode tracking page for details.

Best for: teams that want a focused tracker with every engine included. Less suited to: teams that want an SEO suite in the same login.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush adds AI visibility inside its SEO suite. Its documentation names Google AI Mode and ChatGPT. If you already use Semrush, keeping AI Mode data next to your keyword work is convenient. See our Semrush comparison.

Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar sits inside Ahrefs and covers Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity, with Grok added this year. It does not track Claude. It suits teams already living in Ahrefs. See the Ahrefs Brand Radar comparison.

Otterly.ai

Otterly lists Google AI Mode among its platforms, but it bills AI Mode and Gemini as paid add-ons on top of its base plans. It has a Looker Studio connector. See the Otterly comparison.

Profound, Peec AI and Scrunch

Profound is an enterprise platform sold through a demo. Peec AI starts from a smaller set of platforms and adds more as paid add-ons. Scrunch combines monitoring with site audits, and its entry plan covers fewer engines than its enterprise tier. Each has a comparison page: Profound, Peec AI and Scrunch.

Features change often. Check each vendor's site before you buy.

How to choose

Ask four questions.

  1. Is AI Mode included or an add-on? This changes the real cost.
  2. Can you see citations? Without source URLs you cannot act.
  3. Do you need other engines? If yes, check how many are included.
  4. Where does the data need to go? API, MCP and dashboard exports matter if you report to others.

Checking AI Mode by hand

You can start without a tool.

  1. Write 20 to 50 real buyer prompts. Keep them fixed.
  2. Run each at least three times in AI Mode.
  3. Log date, prompt, mentioned or not, position, competitors and cited URLs.
  4. Calculate mention rate and top cited domains each week.

It works, but it is slow and hard to repeat across countries. That is when a tool pays off.

Common mistakes

Trusting one run. Use repeats.

Tracking a score only. Keep the fields apart.

Ignoring competitors. Track them on the same prompts.

Forgetting the market. Set country and language.

Where to start

Pick your fixed prompt set, record a baseline, then change one thing at a time. If you want AI Mode alongside seven other engines without add-ons, try Pineprompt. If a spreadsheet does the job for now, use that. Either way, track answers, not ranks.
