Key metrics

Share of voice

Share of voice is your brand's portion of all mentions of tracked brands. Where visibility asks whether you appear, share of voice asks how much of the conversation you own relative to the competitors you track.

How it is computed

For the set of responses matching the active filter, Pineprompt counts every mention of every tracked brand, that is, your own brand plus your competitors. A brand's share of voice is its own mention count divided by that total.

share of voice = round(mentions of the brand / mentions of all tracked brands × 100)

The result is a whole number from 0 to 100, and the shares of all tracked brands sum to roughly 100 (rounding may shift the total by a point). Unlike visibility, every mention counts, so a response that names a competitor three times contributes three mentions to the denominator. When no tracked brand is mentioned at all in the filtered period, share of voice is 0.

The competitor set defines the market

Because the denominator is the mentions of the brands you track, share of voice is always relative to the competitor set you chose. Adding a heavily mentioned competitor lowers everyone else's share overnight without any platform having changed its answers, and removing one raises them. You should therefore treat the competitor set as part of the measurement definition and keep it stable while you compare periods. Discovered brands do not count until you promote them to competitors, as described on the brands page.

Reading it alongside visibility

The two metrics move independently, and the combination is informative. High visibility with low share of voice means you appear in most answers, but as one name among many; the platforms see you as part of the category rather than the answer to it. Low visibility with high share of voice means you appear rarely, but when you do, the answer is about you. Typically, the first pattern calls for stronger differentiation in the sources the platforms cite, and the second for broader coverage of the category questions.

Where it appears

Share of voice has its own chart on the project overview, plotting your brand against your tracked competitors over time, and the brand table lists each brand's current share under the active filter.
