Otterly vs Profound

Lars Koole · · 4 min read

Otterly and Profound both track brands in AI answers, but they differ on how you start, which engines you get and how you reach the data. Here is how to choose.

Otterly and Profound both measure how your brand appears in answers from AI engines such as ChatGPT and Gemini. They serve similar buyers, so the decision usually comes down to three questions: how you want to start, which engines you need, and how you want to get the data out. If you are weighing Otterly against another tool, see our comparison of Otterly and Peec AI.

This comparison draws on each vendor's public website as we read it on 24 October 2026, plus our own compare pages for Otterly and Profound. Vendors change their products often, so confirm details with them before you buy. We have left out competitor prices on purpose, because they change and are best read on each vendor's own pricing page.

The two tools in brief

Otterly sells Lite, Standard and Premium plans. Each tracks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini are available as paid add-ons. Otterly offers a free trial.

Profound offers a free 7-day trial and an Enterprise plan reached through "Get a Demo". Beyond answer tracking it sells Agent Analytics and an AI Marketer product.

Engines covered

Otterly's standard plans cover four engines, and adding Claude, AI Mode or Gemini costs extra. That is a clear model: you pay for the base set and add what you need.

Profound's coverage depends on how you buy. The free trial runs on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Enterprise can cover up to nine engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, Google AI Overviews and Exa. If you need engines such as DeepSeek or Exa, Profound lists them and Otterly's public plans do not.

Trials and getting started

Both vendors let you try the product before you commit, but the trials are shaped differently.

Profound's trial lasts 7 days and allows 50 unique prompts a day on its three engines, plus 5 Prompt Volumes searches. It does not include an API, exports or history.

Otterly also offers a free trial. Check its current signup page for the terms before you begin.

Data access: API, MCP and exports

This is where the two differ most.

Otterly includes API and MCP access from its Standard plan, so you do not need a custom contract to connect the data to other systems.

Profound's Enterprise plan includes CSV and JSON export, an API and all-time history. Those features are listed for Enterprise, which you reach through "Get a Demo".

If you want programmatic access on a self-serve plan, Otterly's Standard plan is the more direct route. If you need all-time history and CSV or JSON export, Profound lists them on Enterprise.

Demand data and other products

Profound's Prompt Volumes feature estimates how often topics are searched, using consumer panels in the US, UK, Canada, Germany and France. This can help you decide which prompts matter before you track them. It is a useful input if your markets are covered by those panels.

Profound also sells Agent Analytics and AI Marketer alongside monitoring. If you want those from the same vendor, that is a point in Profound's favour.

Which to pick

  • You want an API and MCP on a self-serve plan: Otterly, from its Standard plan.
  • You need up to nine engines, including DeepSeek and Exa: Profound Enterprise.
  • You want demand estimates for prompts: Profound, through Prompt Volumes in the US, UK, Canada, Germany and France.
  • You want to test with a short, limited trial: Profound's 7-day trial, knowing it has no API, exports or history.
  • You want exports and all-time history: Profound Enterprise.

Where Pineprompt fits

Pineprompt is a self-serve tool for tracking brand visibility in AI answers. It runs your tracked prompts daily on six live AI platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Copilot. It reports mentions, position, sentiment, cited sources, competitors and share of voice.

The MCP server is on every plan, and the API and Looker Studio connector are on Professional and Business. Plans start at $99 a month. Pineprompt does not offer prompt demand data like Profound's Prompt Volumes, and it does not list the nine-engine coverage of Profound Enterprise.
