AI Referral Traffic

Visits to your site that arrive by clicking a link inside an AI assistant or AI search answer.

In one sentence

AI referral traffic is the set of visits to your site that arrive by clicking a link inside an AI assistant or AI search answer.

What it means

You can find it in analytics by referrer, for example chatgpt.com or perplexity.ai, or by UTM parameters some products add. Not all of it is identifiable. Some assistants strip referrers, and some visits come after a person copies your name and searches, so they show as direct or organic.

Treat the number as a floor, not a total. It is also usually small next to search traffic, so judge it by conversion quality and growth, not by size alone.

What to do about it

Create an analytics segment for known AI referrers. Compare landing pages with the URLs that assistants cite, since those are the pages that receive visits. Improve those pages first: clear next step, current information, fast load.

Expect noise in the data. Record the method you use to define AI traffic and keep it constant, so month-to-month changes mean something.

How Pineprompt measures it

Pineprompt does not measure your traffic. It shows which pages are cited and how often, which tells you where to expect referrals. See citation tracking.
