Citation Share

The portion of all citations in a set of AI answers that point to your domain.

In one sentence

Citation share is the portion of all source citations across a set of AI-generated answers that point to your domain, compared with the citations given to every other domain.

What it means

Where citation rate asks how often answers cite you at least once, citation share asks how much of the total citation volume you hold. If answers to your tracked prompts cite 200 sources and 30 are your pages, your citation share is 15 percent.

Share depends on the prompt set. Measure it on a fixed list of prompts so changes reflect movement in the answers rather than a different sample.

What to do about it

Look at which domains hold the share you want. They are often review sites, forums, and publications rather than direct competitors. Earning coverage there can move your share as much as publishing on your own site.

Compare share by platform. Sources that dominate one assistant may barely appear in another. See also source attribution.

How Pineprompt measures it

Pineprompt captures the cited URLs in every answer and reports citation share per domain, so you can see your share next to that of competitors and third-party sources. See citation tracking.
