In one sentence
Prompt volume is how often a given question is asked of AI assistants. Unlike keyword search volume, it is mostly not published by the platforms.
What it means
Search engines give tools estimated keyword volumes. AI assistants generally do not publish equivalent data, and prompts are long and phrased differently every time, so any volume figure is an estimate built from panels or models and should be treated as such.
That means prompt selection is a judgment call. Base it on what customers actually ask: sales calls, support tickets, community threads and search queries you already rank for.
What to do about it
Build a prompt set that covers each stage of the buying journey and each product line. Weight the prompts by business value, not by a volume number you cannot verify. Expand the seed topics with the prompt fan-out generator and review the results by hand.
When stakeholders ask for volume, be honest that it is an estimate. A short note explaining how the prompt set was chosen is more defensible than a large number without a source.
How Pineprompt measures it
Pineprompt does not report prompt volume. It tracks the prompts you choose, so that changes in your results come from your visibility and not from a shifting sample. See prompt tracking.
