Structured Data

Machine-readable markup, usually schema.org JSON-LD, that labels what a page is about so systems can read it without guessing.

In one sentence

Structured data is machine-readable markup, usually schema.org JSON-LD, that labels what a page contains, such as an organization, product, article or FAQ, so systems do not have to guess.

What it means

Structured data helps search systems identify the entities on a page and their properties. Google documents which types it uses for rich results. Whether a given AI product uses markup directly is not documented in general, so treat it as good hygiene that supports clear understanding, not a guaranteed lever.

Markup must match what is visible on the page. Marking up content that users cannot see, or that is untrue, can be treated as spam by search engines.

What to do about it

Add Organization markup sitewide, Product or SoftwareApplication where relevant, Article on content, and FAQPage only where real questions and answers appear. Validate it. The schema markup generator produces valid JSON-LD.

Do not add markup for its own sake. A few accurate types that match the page are better than many that do not. Re-validate after template changes, which quietly break markup more often than content edits do.

How Pineprompt measures it

The GEO readiness checker looks for structured data among other signals, and Pineprompt shows whether citations change afterward.
